      Fellowship Race Series

2:30 PM start (30 minutes earlier than last season).

Our PYC Fellowship Race series will soon be starting up again, but with a few changes.
Remember, this race series is for everyone who sails! Hardcore racer, beginning racer & everyone in between.
If you have a sailboat, you should consider joining us. Here’s a few reasons why:

      • Short format (1.5 hour max) race with a finish often in the harbor
      • Casual racing since there isn’t hardware or glory to be had (just bragging rights)
      • Great way to try racing without the pressure of a big regatta
      • Get your friends to crew with you and try racing
      • Actually remember what it was like to get your sailboat out of the slip & sail!
      • Socialize with fellow sailors at PYC after the race (or don’t if you wish)
      • Tune your skills for the Peninsula Cup in the Fall

New Excitement for Kids on Lake Norman

Cornelius, NC: April 2, 2017 2:00 PM EST -The Peninsula Yacht Club (PYC), a Lake Norman institution, is christening new yachts launching the 2017 sailing season. The three new boats will join the twelve boat fleet for member usage for boating on the lake. The christening is the start of the 2017 Peninsula Yacht Club - Junior Sailing Team. The new boats are class named Melges 14 and is new to Lake Norman.

The Junior Sailing Team is a program, for children ages 8-14 from April through October, which imparts a lifelong love of boating. The program focuses on the advanced boat handling skills required for safely operation in all conditions. The team creates respect and camaraderie among all participants. “The main focus is to get the juniors on the water safely maneuvering boats and having fun. The skill to safely handle a sailboat by yourself gives kids the self-confidence that translates into valuable life skills.” - Adam T. Gautier, PYC Parent Volunteer.

About the Melges 14: Built by Melges Performance Sailboats, exudes innovation and excellence in one design sailing. It’s speed, quality, durability, comfort and fun wrapped into one dynamic and modern sailing package. In development for over two years, it offers a fun and exciting upwind and downwind experience when compared to other boats in its size range. Perfect for all ages, it features a large, comfortable open cockpit — so no bailing. An ultra-cool carbon mast and boom complements its modern, yet flexible sail plan (full or mid-range). You can either car top or tow it behind any vehicle. It’s easy to move it around on a custom Melges 14 dolly. It’s a fantastic beach boat — a fun, family-style sailboat or a one-design racing platform.
