Below is some additional information regarding the three nonprofit organizations:

Levine-Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville – A facility focused on Hospice & Palliative Care for those in need by offering end-of-life care by providing the gentle comforts of home with essential medical expertise towards comfort and dignity at the end of life. Their mission is to improve the lives of patients and their families at a time when relief is most needed by delivering exceptional care and providing guidance to the patient and families on this difficult journey.  Services available for those in need at Levine-Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville include: Hospice Care, Palliative Medicine, Grief Counseling/Support, Community Education, and Advance Care Directives.

Davidson-Cornelius Child Development Center – Is a Five-Star accredited facility that offers an early education and child care program serving children from 6 weeks old to five years old.  Using a “Learning Through Play” approach, they make learning and growing fun! Children learn the importance of responsibility, sharing and teamwork, all while smiling, laughing, singing and just being kids. Their mission is focused on providing high-quality, affordable early education and care for any child of our community without regard to race, ethnicity, religion or socioeconomic status, and to embrace and foster diversity in a safe learning environment.

Calvin Newman Youth Boater Safety & Education Fund - The fund carries on the legacy of Calvin Newman who was not only an active member of the PYC Fleet Committee but also very passionate about youth boating safety. Calvin decided that it was essential to find ways to educate young people on the responsibility of operating water vehicles safely.  Before his untimely passing he worked with Harry Smith the Marine Manager of PYC to conduct a PWV water safety course for both PYC members and others in the Lake Norman Community.  The Fund is a way to continue his passionate commitment for the need for on-going safety education of our youth.

      Poker Run Safety Guidelines

      ·       It is strongly recommended that all passengers and drivers wear Coast Guard approved PFDs at all times when on the water.

      • Before departing make sure:

ü  You have enough PFD’s for everyone on board and make everyone aware of where they are located (if not being worn).

ü  You have a throwable PFD out and available for immediate use.

ü  Have a Fire Extinguisher readily available and everyone knows its location

      ·        Follow safe fueling procedures  (per US Boat Foundation)

      ü  Switch off engine

      ü  Extinguish all open flames

ü  Do not use electrical switches

      ü  No smoking

ü  Make sure bilge blower is turned off

ü  Ports, hatches, and doors closed

ü  Make certain all passengers are ashore

ü  Determine quantity of fuel required and make sure it is the proper type of fuel

ü  Hold hose nozzle firmly against fill pipe opening

      ü  After Fueling:

      ·        Open ports, hatches, and doors to ventilate

      ·        Turn blower on for four minutes minimum

      ·        Do the sniff test

      ·        Start engine

      ·        Re-board passengers

      ·        Alcohol consumption should be minimized. The law for the boat driver is the same as the law for an automobile driver .08%.

      ·        This is not a race, keep your speed under control as you approach the “Stop Location”. Approach very slowly.

      ·        If your vessel is not an open bow or center console refrain from having people on deck as sudden movement (wakes, slowing down, speeding up, changing gears) can cause people to lose their balance and fall or being thrown overboard.
